Placing a dental implant can be a simple and successful procedure if the correct amount of time is taken to plan the placement of the dental implant. Ideal planning can only be accomplished by using a 3-dimensional picture. This 3-dimensional picture: called a CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) answers all the crucial questions about implant placement. Is there enough bone? What kind of bone is it? Are there any critical anatomical structures at the implant site?
Using this CBCT picture and specialized software implants can be placed in the computerized picture before they are placed at the surgical appointment. Each implant can be ideally placed and that position can be replicated at the time of surgery by using a surgical guide to locate the implant at the ideal position.
Investing time and money in the crucial planning stage will minimize future complications at the surgical and prosthetic components of the dental implant placement.
